Registration
As an EU/EEA-student you do not need a visa or residence permit, but you do need to register with the city registration desk (Burgerzaken). Registration with the IND is optional.
Nationals of the ‘new’ EU-countries cannot yet register with the IND but can apply for a ‘proof of lawful residence’.
Registration with the city
If you begin your studies in September or February, the registration with the city registration desk is organised by Student Services and you will receive information automatically. If you start at any other time during the year, you will receive information from your department or you can contact the city registration desk in Utrecht at the following address: Arthur van Schendelstraat 500. Note that if you are living in another town or city in the Netherlands you will have to contact the city registration desk there.
Registration with the IND
Once you have registered with the city registration desk, you can call the IND for an appointment at 0900-1234561 (choose option ‘appointment desk’). You will receive a confirmation of the appointment by mail, as well as an overview of the documents you will need to provide. This registration is not required, but you do need it if you wish to be eligible for certain services from the government, such as tuition fee loan.
