Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies

This Research Master's Programme focuses on the interdisciplinary study of Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, examining the material, social and intellectual  developments in the societies developing in Europe, including all regions bordering the Mediterranean from Antiquity to c. AD 1700.

You  will gain an understanding of the theoretical background to academic study within the humanities, with particular attention to Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance studies. You will also be prepared for independent academic study of Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.  At least one semester will be spent abroad.

Within this broad field of studies, you choose one of four distinct specializations: Ancient Studies, Medieval Studies, Medieval Celtic Studies or Renaissance Studies. At the same time, the programme allows you to gain knowledge of methodically related yet often separately offered fields of studies, and to study them from a historical perspective.
