Language courses
Babel offers a wide variety of language courses ranging from Spanish to Russian and Japanese. Babel also offers IELTS and TOEFL® exam preparation and courses to improve writing and presenting in English.
Study counselling and study skills
The Centre for Study Choice organises programme selection workshops for secondary school and university students. Students can participate in various study-related courses and workshops (information in Dutch), such as oral presentation, academic writing, self-management and labour market orientation, and they are offered help with study or personal problems.
Programme for secondary school students
The Junior College Utrecht (JCU) is a two-year teaching programme for 5th and 6th grade secondary school students (pre-university education) who have a special taste for science. The course runs twice a week at the university campus. The curriculum is jointly established by secondary school and Utrecht University teachers.
For secondary school students, the James Boswell Institute of Utrecht University offers exam preparation and courses supplementing their chosen course profile.
IVLOS
IVLOS Institute of Education is a department of Utrecht University.
IVLOS provides teacher education, study-skills training, and services in the area of staff development, and educational support, design and development. IVLOS also conducts educational research, and does contract work for universities, colleges of higher education, government institutions and secondary schools.
Higher education for seniors
HOVO (Higher Education for Seniors) (information in Dutch) offers university and higher education courses for people above fifty. HOVO Utrecht is a partnership of Utrecht University, Hogeschool Utrecht, the University of Humanities and the Utrecht division of the Faculty of Catholic Theology.
Studium Generale
Studium Generale (information in Dutch) organises knowledge cafés, conferences, lectures and debates, offering students, teachers and other interested people a taste of all types of academic fields. These activities are open to everyone, free of charge and without registration. Most lectures take place during evenings in the Academiegebouw (University Hall) at the Domplein.
Utrecht Summer School
In summer, Utrecht University offers special courses for international students. In the past two decades, Utrecht Summer School has developed a wide range of courses covering almost all Utrecht disciplines.
Parnassos Culture Centre
Find figurative arts, dance, film, photography, music and theatre at Parnassos, the culture centre of Utrecht University. All art disciplines are respresented. Students, staff and other interested people are welcome at very attractive rates.
