The Centre for Study Choice

The Centre for Study Choice organises programme selection workshops for secondary school pupils and students of both Utrecht University and Hogeschool Utrecht.

Academic Primary School Teacher Training Programme

Utrecht University gives students the possibility of taking a degree in Pedagogy and at the same time obtaining their primary school teaching qualification. This possibility, initiated by Hogeschool Utrecht and Utrecht University, meets the growing political and social need to improve the skills and knowledge of primary school teachers. By taking both a university degree and a higher education degree, students acquire scientific knowledge as well as practical skills.
Graduates will be full-fledged primary school teachers, who possess additional theoretical, research and academic knowledge and skills as compared to their colleagues having only a higher education degree.

Transition programmes

Hogeschool Utrecht and Utrecht University jointly developed a number of Pre-Master's degree programmes. Hogeschool students can take these programmes while still studying for their higher education degree, enabling them to start a Utrecht University graduate programme immediately after having finished their Hogeschool studies.

Opportunities for Utrecht University students wishing to take Hogeschool graduate degrees have been created as well. For undergraduate students switching to a similar Hogeschool Utrecht programme, the loss of valuable study time is reduced to a minimum.

PhD programme

Utrecht University and Hogeschool Utrecht have developed a PhD programme for Hogeschool employees, who receive guidance from a supervisor appointed by mutual agreement between both teaching institutes. PhD students will be offered a position within one of the Graduate Schools of Utrecht University and will also defend their thesis at the University.
