Overview PhD Courses

PhD education and courses

Education and training for PhD candidates of the Graduate School of Life Sciences is provided by the individual PhD programmes and by the faculties of affiliation. Each PhD candidate is required to earn 20 credits of the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) during his/her PhD period.

Thematic courses in PhD programmes

A minimum of 8 credits need to be earned within the specific PhD programme to which the PhD candidate has been admitted. For information please refer to the specific PhD programmes or contact your PhD programme coordinator.

PhD candidates are allowed to attend courses of choice offered by the other PhD programmes of the Graduate School of Life Sciences. If you are interested in a course provided by another PhD programme, please contact the coordinator of that programme in advance to learn the details.
 
Utrecht University cooperates with five other Dutch universities to offer a yearly Postgraduate Education in Toxicology (P.E.T.) programme. The programme consists of courses of approximately one or two weeks each (e.g. General Toxicology, Risk Communication).

  • General Courses
    A minimum of 4 credits need to be earned on courses that provide training and education in general and professional skills. The Graduate School of Life Sciences strongly encourages PhD candidates to attend workshops and courses that focus on developing professional skills and building a (scientific) career.
