Internship

UCU offers the possibility to take up an internship as part of your curriculum. An internships allows you to learn how to deal with the challenges and procedures in professional life. You get a chance to experience the distinction between abstract academic theory and concrete daily practice. In addition you build a professional network which may be beneficial to a future career.

UCU offers a number of internships at different host institutions, but it is also possible to initiate an internship yourself. All themes related to the curriculum are possible, and you can think of development, business, international relations, biotechnology, medicine or cultural heritage.

At the end of the internship students hand in a report, which counts as a 2-level course towards the major requirements.

Development internship

UCU offers internships at selected NGO’s in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Prior to departure students take the course Theory and practice of development studies at UCU. A special variation on the development internship is the Africa program, in which students in addition to the aforementioned take a field course in development on location in Africa.

Cultural heritage internships programme (CHIP)

UCU students have undertaken internships with a wide range of cultural heritage institutions, in the Netherlands and abroad, as part of their bachelor degree. Defining, managing, preserving, recovering, renewing, and (re)creating cultural heritage for future generations, are matters of value and identity, justice and sustainability. CHIP lays the foundations for post-graduate study and professional engagement in the dynamic field of cultural heritage.
