I study how tides, waves and river discharge transport sediment and how this shapes the morphology of coastal areas like river deltas, estuaries, tidal basins and barrier islands.

I develop models for the dynamics of channel networks in river deltas, make use of existing models like delft3D and use field data to gain fundamental understanding of these systems.

In recent years I worked on projects on the morphology of the Wadden Sea (WadSed, SEAWAD), on saltwater intrusion in the channel network of the Vietnamese Mekong delta (Rise and fall project), on the dynamics of intertidal shoals in the Western Scheldt (PhD project of Marco Schrijver) and on stability of tide-influenced channel confluences in river deltas (PhD project of Iwantoro)
