Dr Christianne Smit is associate professor and researcher at the Political History group. Her historical interests contain political culture in general and reformers in social politics, their ideals, initiatives in particular, as well as the interaction between public opinion and political agenda setting in the Netherlands and western Europe between 1850 and 1940. 

Within the Faculty of Humanities, she serves as an ambassador for Community-engaged learning and as a fellow for Open Education. Previously, she held the role of Director of education for the Department of History and Art History. She reflects on research in higher education from a humanities perspective, for which she is affiliated with the Higher Education Research Humanities group.

From September 1, 2024, she has been appointed as a Senior Fellow at the Centre of Academic Teaching. Transformative learning is central to her project.
