Ineke Maas doet onderzoek naar trends en landenverschillen in intergenerationele mobiliteit, huwelijksmobiliteit en carrièremobiliteit. Daarnaast publiceerde zij onder andere over integratie van immigranten, onderwijsongelijkheid en sekseongelijkheid.
Sinds 2012 is zij bijzonder hoogleraar Lange termijn ontwikkelingen in sociale openheid en uitsluiting bij de Vakgroep Sociologie, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
