Moniek Kuijpers (1986) studied Art, Culture and Media Studies at the University of Groningen (2004-2007) with specialties in Literary Studies, Comparative Arts and Arts Education. After that she completed a Researchmaster program also at the University of Groningen in Literary and Cultural Studies (2007-2009). During this Researchmaster she developed an interest in Empirical Literary Studies and Cognitive Literary Studies. For her thesis research she spend half a year at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada to conduct empirical research on bodily feelings during literary reading.
In September 2010 she started her PhD. Her research is part of the NWO-funded project 'Varieties and Determinants of Absorption in Narrative Literature and Film'. Her research focuses on textual features that can influence absorption experiences during literary reading.
