Research
Indonesian local television and public sphere (NWO-Mosaic)
01.01.2010
to
31.12.2014
General project description:
The research project
concerns the development of local television in Indonesia in the context
of its transformation into a democratic state following the fall of
President Suharto in 1998. Indonesia implemented a new broadcasting law
in 2002 allowing the establishment of local commercial television
service. To date, more than 250 television stations have been
established throughout different regions. By scrutinizing institutional,
textual and reception dimensions of local television, I aim to
investigate how local television emerges as a medium of regional public
spheres.
