Martha Frederiks (1965) studeerde Theologie en Islam aan de Universiteit Utrecht en het Duncan Black MacDonald Institute in Hartford CT. Van 1993 tot 1999 werkte en leefde zij in West Afrika. In 2003 verdedigde zij haar dissertatie We Have Toiled All Night. Christianity in The Gambia 1456-2000 aan de Universiteit Utrecht (cum laude). In 2007 werd zij aan de Universiteit Utrecht benoemd tot bijzonder hoogleraar Missiologie: Wereldchristendom en Interreligieuze Dialoog. Zij is ook directeur van het Centrum IIMO (Centrum voor Interculturele Theologie, Interreligieuze Dialoog, Missiologie en Oecumenica).
