Marjo
Korpel is Universitair Hoofddocent aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Haar publicaties zijn met name gericht op de uitleg van het Oude Testament, de Kanaänitische en Israëlitische godsdienst en de Oudhebreeuwse epigrafie. Met name is zij bekend vanwege haar onderzoek op het gebied van het metaforisch taalgebruik in de beschrijving van het goddelijke in Ugarit en het oude Israël (dissertatie A
Rift in the Clouds, 1990). Ze is de oprichter van de internationale onderzoeksgroep Pericope: Scripture as
Written and Read in Antiquity (Delimitation Criticism). In de gelijknamige serie publiceerde zij een boek over de opbouw van het boek Ruth volgens de oudste Hebreeuwse, Griekse, Syrische en Latijnse bijbelhandschriften (The Structure of the Book of Ruth (2001). In 2011 verscheen The Silent God (Brill, Leiden) een gezamenlijke studie met Johannes de Moor (Kampen). Haar onderzoek richt zicht op het moment vooral op tekst layout van de Bijbel (Unit Delimitation), Kanaänitische religieuze literatuur en de bijbelboeken Ruth, Ester, en de Tweede Jesaja (Jesaja 40-55).

Als PKN predikant leidt de onderzoeker zo'n 35-40 kerkdiensten per jaar in diverse protestantse gemeentes in het land. Het eigen onderzoek vormt hierbij de basis voor de uitleg van bijbelteksten.
