Annette Merz has studied Theology and Church Music at the universities of Münster and Heidelberg and worked 1996-2003 as an Assistant Professor of the New Testament at the Faculty of Theology at Heidelberg University where she also obtained her PhD (2001). In 2003 she started working at the UU as a lecturer and researcher, since 2006 she holds the chair of Culture and Literature of Earliest Christianity at the department of Theology of the Faculty of Humanities at the UU (financed by U-fonds). 2005-2009 she directed the High Potential Project "Habent sua fata libelli": Text-processing in the philosophical and religious movements within the Roman Empire (1-300 CE)" together with dr. T. Tieleman (dep. of Philosophy).
