Research at the Department of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences

Researchers at the Department of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences investigate various subjects such as the mourning process, aggression in childhood, perception and cognition, interactive learning, social networks, work and stress, and disorders. By publishing the new insights in international scientific magazines and by cooperating with colleagues in their own country, as well as with colleagues from other countries, the researchers develop scientific expertise on a high international level.

Research programmes

Research at the Department of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences is conducted by the Langeveld Institute for the Study of Education and Development in Childhood and Adolescence. The research subjects have been divided over four research programmes:

  1. Adolescent Development: Characteristics and Determinants >>
  2. Development and Education of Children with (Mild) Cognitive and/or Motor Disabilities >>
  3. Development and Treatment of Psychosocial Problems >>
  4. Learning in Interaction >>

Research focus areas

Utrecht University has combined its top research into fifteen research focus areas. These are multidisciplinary research areas, which cluster research under single thematic umbrellas. The Department of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences participates in the Coordinating Societal Change research focus area.

Research Schools/Networks

Researchers of the Research Institute of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences participate in two nationally recognised research networks: ISED and ICO.
