Press Relations
Social science experts seem to be quite popular with the media. The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences receives many requests on a daily basis. They regularly call or email to ask for more information on a specific topic or a response from a scientist on a topical issue. Scientists are regularly asked to make an appearance on a radio or TV programme or to give interviews for newspapers and magazines.
A few examples of the many requests:
- "For a science programme, I’m looking for an expert who can respond to Unicef’s latest report."
- "I’m working on a news article about the integration of Chinese people in the Netherlands. I'm looking for an expert sociologist or anthropologist."
- "I’m writing an article for a magazine and would like to speak to a scientific expert about sexuality and taboos."
- "We are looking for a developmental expert, educator or special education expert for a TV programme on raising children."
The Faculty also regularly publishes interesting, newsworthy reports on scientific research and education. These publications include articles about PhD defences and graduation ceremonies, inaugural lectures, debates, lectures and other presentations. The reports appear, for instance, in the UUmediamail digital newsletter and on the University and Faculty websites.
