ICT Research

Utrecht Institute for ICT Research

Almost all research in the Utrecht Institute for ICT Research is based in the department of Information and Computing Sciences . It is not only diverse, it is also fundamental. Characteristic for our research is that it is founded on theory and guided by applications. Computers and computing have reached almost every nook and cranny of our society. This strong interaction with society is a constant source of new, often deeply fundamental problems. The strength of our research is to solve such problems.

While our research is diverse, it is rooted in the well-known pillars of our field such as Algorithms, Software Technology, and Artificial Intelligence, but we are also active in research areas like Virtual Environments, Human Media Interaction, Multimedia, Visualization of cultural heritage, Product Software.

Our department is devoted to top-level research in information and computing sciences (ICS) for IT, as the cornerstone of modern science and the Information Society. We value our connections and cooperation’s with many excellent research institutes, universities, IT-companies and industries inside The Netherlands and abroad.

There is no discussion about quality: our research activities are externally reviewed periodically and consistently ranked among the best in the Netherlands.

Join us in our quest for an even better understanding of the power of computing.
