Welcome to the Freudenthal Institute!

The Freudenthal Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (FIsme; in Dutch: Freudenthal Instituut voor Didactiek van Wiskunde en Natuurwetenschappen) is one of the research institutes of the Faculty of Science of Utrecht University. The institute is made up of the didactics sections of the Departments of Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. The FIsme has approximately 70 employees (scientists, project and support employees and Master’s students). The institute was named after the Professor of mathematics and expert in mathematics education Hans Freudenthal (1905 – 1990).
