Research
The research in the department of Information and Computing Sciences is not only diverse, it is also fundamental. Characteristic for our research is that it is founded on theory and guided by applications. Computers and computing have reached almost every nook and cranny of our society. This strong interaction with society is a constant source of new, often deeply fundamental problems. The strength of our research is to solve such problems. Read more about our research....
Our research has been organized in the Utrecht Center for ICT-research

PhD-research
The department offers a challenging environment for over 50 students preparing their PhD-theses. Most of them have an appointment at the Utrecht University, but a growing number has their main job in private companies or educational institutions and writes their thesis under supervision of one of our chairs.

Organization
The basis of our research are the researchers headed by a professor. Our research has been organized in the Utrecht Center for ICT-research and grouped in foci: 1) Games, Media and Agent Technology, and 2) Information and Software Systems.
The Utrecht Center is the main partner in one of the 11 research focus areas of the Utrecht University: Information Technologies in Science and Society.
