Education - Organisational Set-up

Teaching within the Faculty of Science is the shared responsibility of the relevant departments (administration) and the appropriate Schools (subject matter).

Schools

Teaching in the Faculty of Science is carried out in four Schools:

Programme organisation

In the Undergraduate School of Science, the Board of Studies is formed from the Directors of the seven undergraduate programmes and the Vice Dean of undergraduate programmes.

In each Graduate School, the Board of Studies consists of a Vice Dean and the Programme Coordinators of the Master’s programmes. The Board has responsibility for:

The coordination, coherence, quality and scope of the programmes
Admission to, and supervision of, Master’s and PhD programmes.

Student and staff representation

The teaching curriculum and arrangements of the undergraduate programmes must be formally approved by Programme Advisory Committees, which include student representation. The Board of Examiners holds responsibility for admission requirements and examination administration.

The evaluation of the teaching programmes takes place in Lecture Response Groups. These often form part of the Student Council or the Student Consultation Committee. Based on the findings of these groups, it is possible to evaluate and adjust programmes.

Teaching support

The preparation and execution of the academic is supported by Student and Academic Affairs. A number of ‘study information points have also been set up in several locations, providing answers to a wide range of questions that students and teaching staff may have.
