Avner Shaked

The University Board has decided to agree with our proposal  to appoint Avner Shaked to the new chair Multidisciplinary Economics.

The USE Board is extremely pleased that we have succeeded in attracting a research with such excellent research reputation and track record, who moreover fits perfectly in the Multidisciplinary Economics profile of USE.

Below we provide some additional information to give you some idea of his experience, qualities and profie.

With respect to track record, Avner Shaked has worked as a professor of Economic Theory at Bonn University in Germany for a long time. In his career he has published in the top economic journals like the American economic review, Econometrica, the Quarterly Journal of Economics and many more. Moreover, he has been associate editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the Journal of Economic Theory. Not only his publication record is excellent, but the same holds for his citation record, which is unique.

His research interests are in Evolutionary Game Theory, Learning, IO, Evolution of Cooperation and Loyalty, Experimental Game Theory, and Matching. It illustrates his broad research agenda as well as its multidisciplinary character. In the past he has published jointly with sociologists and biologists.

For the next two years, Avner will be at USE. His schedule for academic year 2010/2011 is as follows:
September 13-16
October 4-7
November 15-18
December 6-9
January 17-20
February 7-10

May 9-12
June 6-9
In these weeks he will be the organizer and coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Eonomics seminar series which we hope and trust will attract large audiences from inside and outside USE. This series will start in March. Since his main task is to promote and stimulate multidisciplinary economics research at USE, Avner has a budget at his disposal to attract interesting guests to USE. Also, he will be involved in setting up (and doing) new research projects with USE colleagues and is available for discussions on research with all of us.

You can find him in room A1.20 and you his phone number is 7941.
