Education at the Utrecht University School of Economics

The teaching programmes offered by the Utrecht University School of Economics (USE) have a strong international and multidisciplinary character. Utrecht’s economics education emphasizes the institutional, historical and spatial dimensions of economic issues and focuses on the collaboration between and integration of business economics and general economics. This approach allows students to develop their individual profile as multidisciplinary economists.

USE has 1171 students in its Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, 24% of whom are from abroad. The Bachelor’s programme Economics and Business Economics offers many options, giving each student the opportunity to compile a degree programme tailored to his or her individual ambitions and interests.

A large part of the programmes is taught in English, also for students of the Dutch-language Bachelor’s programme in Economics. Economics is an internationally-oriented field of expertise and students are expected to explore boundaries. Therefore, they are strongly encouraged to spend part of their studies at a foreign partner university. An honours programme meets the demand for educational differentiation.

In the Master’s phase, students can specialise in one of the multidisciplinary Master’s programmes, the Master’s programme International Economics and Business or the Research Master in Multidisciplinary Economics.

After successfully completing the Bachelor’s or Master’s programme, students are entitled to use the Bachelor of Science in Economics degree (BSc Economics) or the Master of Science in Economics degree (MSc Economics), respectively.
