Prof. Luisa Passerini at the Centre for the Humanities, 27-30 September 

From 27 to 30 September Prof. Luisa Passerini will be giving three master classes and a public lecture at the Centre for the Humanities at Utrecht University. She will explore issues of memory as intersubjectivity and in connection to processes of death and mourning, European identity, Eurocentrism and the history of the Love Discourse.

Luisa PasseriniWithin this range, Passerini takes on the shift of European identity in relation to its 'others', from a negative identification to a possibility of solidarity with 'others' as well as an opening up of European identity. Memory will be considered in light of biography, autobiography and literature and Eurocentrism will be discussed in terms of literary history of love discourse.

Luisa Passerini is Professor of Cultural History at the University of Torino, External Professor of History at the European University Institute, Florence, and Visiting Professor in the Oral History Master Program at Columbia University, New York.

Registration

This seminar and master class series addresses topics on postgraduate and research master –levels. In order to register please send and email to CfH@uu.nl with a letter of motivation and cv. Some seminars may also require a paper presentation and all require preparation in terms of readings.

The master classes by Paul Gilroy, Etienne Balibar and Luisa Passerini in September 2010 have individual structures according to the topic and teacher. It is recommended that students sign up for a full week, or all three weeks, and not only single classes. Credits will be awarded.

The master classes have limited spaces available which will be filled following the principle of first-come, first-served.
