Research Institute INTEGON

The Research Institute for Theology and Religious Studies (INTEGON) promotes research in the field of the interdisciplinary study of religion, with an emphasis on Christianity and Islam. (Post)secular moral and social orders and their interplay with religious imaginaries are further priorities of our research.

Contemporary and historical themes
At INTEGON we combine research on religion in past and present with detailed reflection on the theoretical foundations and conceptual premises of the study of religion. Our research crosses historical and geographical borders, and focuses on contemporary as well as on historical themes in regions across the world, particularly in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and parts of Asia.

Interdisciplinary approaches

INTEGON’s research policy is based on the conviction that innovative research in the field of the study of religion benefits from interdisciplinary approaches that combine different expertise. The institute engages in research that is theory-driven, empirically and historically informed, and that synthesizes methods used in, amongst others, literary and historical analyses, media studies, philosophy, and the socio-cultural sciences.

Sharing knowledge

INTEGON provides a dynamic research environment where leading researchers work enthusiastically and where talent is fostered. INTEGON has a wealth of experience in conducting commissioned research for stakeholders in society. Sharing knowledge with non-academic institutions and professionals, and the general public is part of the institute’s mission. The institute also provides high-quality training for PhD candidates.
