The Resarch Master programme in Philosophy intends to train you to be future researchers in philosophy, or to be succesful players in other fields that require an expertise as a researcher. The programme is guided by two kew ideas: to let you choose your own study programme, under close supervision of a tutor and the programme coordinator, and to let you participate actively in the research activities in the field of philosophy at Utrecht University.
You’ll join one of the research groups – in theoretical philosophy, practical philosophy, or the history of philosophy – to participate in the group’s colloquia and research seminars. In setting up your study programme, you have much freedom: your can, but need not specialize in one those three fields; the close cooperation between the groups in the reseach institute at Utrecht makes it possible to develop taylor-made programmes to suit your own interests. In particular, the option to follow tutorials allows you to profit directly from the research expertise of the staff members.
Joint courses together with the other students in the Research Master – the “core readings” – and general lectures give opportunities for cooperating with your fellow students and the staff members, and to get acquainted with philosophical research in its entire breadth.
