PhD programmes at the OGC

On average, OGC employs about 75 doctoral candidates, of which roughly 40% are not from the Netherlands. OGC regularly has vacancies for externally funded PhD positions. Candidates from Dutch universities and from universities abroad may apply. These positions enable Master graduates to finish their PhD research at the OGC within three or four years. All doctoral candidates at the OGC either have an appointment, receive a grant or are paid by another organisation.

Supervision

During the course of the PhD programme, the PhD Supervisor (a professor at the Faculty of Humanities) and the daily supervisors are responsible for supervising the results of the candidate’s research. OGC's PhD mentors, Simone Veld and José van Aelst, provide the doctoral candidates with advice on (problems encountered during) the planning and progress of the research, the appointment and the candidate’s performance in general. The OGC also organises annual evaluation meetings (Beoordelings- en Ontwikkelingsgesprekken) with all doctoral candidates in order to monitor their progress in the PhD programme.
