NB: ‘to mark’ means ‘up to’ and not ‘up to and including’.
Explanation
Final marks are indicated on a scale from one to ten. Marks below five are not rounded off, marks above six are rounded off to half marks, marks below six to whole marks.
A five (or lower) is a failing mark, a six (or higher) is a passing mark.
How lecturers determine final marks is explained in the course descriptions. In the case of test results and final results it is possible to enter marks with decimals. In recording test results or final results, OSIRIS will calculate the appropriate results.
The final result is determined on the basis of the given weighing and the minimum marks of the tests. If tests are taken several times, the most recent mark counts.
If the final results are entered, it is determined on the basis of the Faculty’s regulations which final results become the appropriate results. If there is more than one final result, the most recent mark counts.
After the appropriate results are determined, they are rounded off according to the table above.
Alphanumeric Grades
Alphanumeric grades are given in the following cases:
- a student who is registered for a course, but has not participated in any exam segments, will receive a NP (Not Participated);
- a student who is registered for a course, but has not completed one or more of the exam segments, will receive a NC (Not Completed);
- a student who has received an exemption for a course will receive an EX (Exemption) for that course;
- in the event that the Examination Committee has determined that fraud has occurred, the student may receive the alphanumeric grade FR (Fraud).
