Medieval Studies

Utrecht University offers students various possibilities for studying medieval history, literature, art, music etc., both at undergraduate (BA) and at postgraduate (MA) level. Tuition is provided by specialists in a variety of disciplines, who make valid contributions to international scholarship as researchers.

Education

• The two-year Research Master Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies (Track: Medieval Studies)
• The one-year Master's programme Europese letterkunde van de Middeleeuwen en de Renaissance (in Dutch)
• The Hoofdrichting Middeleeuwen in the BA Taal- en Cultuurstudies (in Dutch)
• The Research Institute for History and Culture (OGC) and the Netherlands Research School for Medieval Studies, in which Utrecht University participates, offer a limited number of research students the opportunity of writing a PhD thesis in Medieval Studies.

Research

The research group Medieval Culture studies medieval sources as forms of communication. A few current projects are for exemple:

• Cultural Memory and the Resources of the Past: 400-1000 AD
• The Dynamics of the Medieval Manuscript: Text Collections from a European Perspective
• Medieval Memoria Online (MeMO)
