Almost 15,000 video programmes, documents and photographs covering 60 years of television in EU member states are now available on the Europeana portal through the EUscreen project, coordinated by Prof. Sonja de Leeuw (Professor of Dutch television culture in an international context, Utrecht University). By the end of the year, the project will contribute over 30,000 digital items to Europeana, making television history more accessible to all.
Europeana.eu brings together the digitised content of Europe's libraries, galleries, museums, archives and audiovisual collections. Currently it provides integrated access to 20 million books, films, paintings, museum objects and archival documents from some 2200 content providers from every European member state. Europeana receives its main funding from the European Commission.

Numerous videos with rich metadata
EUscreen’s content, coming from the leading archives from 19 countries, will greatly enhance Europeana’s video collections for users to explore. The content also holds rich and consistent metadata, helping users find the necessary background information on any item and place it in a broader context.
The content is also available on EUscreen’s portal www.euscreen.eu. Launched in October 2011, the portal offers a unique view into the history of European television, and will add tools for educational, research and leisurely pursuits in the course of 2012.
