Paulo de Medeiros and Hilary Owen (University of Manchester) have co-edited a special issue of the ‘Journal of Romance Studies’ dedicated to "Psychoanalysis and Portuguese Studies". The journal issue gathers essays from a number of prominent scholars and it forms the first time that a concerted volume of essays on the topic has been published anywhere.
Journal of Romance Studies promotes innovative critical work in the areas of linguistics, literature, performing and visual arts, media, material culture, intellectual and cultural history, critical and cultural theory, psychoanalysis, gender studies, social sciences, and anthropology. The primary focus is on those parts of the world that speak, or have spoken, French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese, but work on other cultures may be included. Issues cross national and disciplinary boundaries in order to stimulate new ways of thinking about cultural history and practice.
Prof. dr. Paulo de Medeiros is Professor of Portuguese Studies and Coordinator of the Research Master Comparative Literary Studies. His teaching and research focus on contemporary Lusophone literatures and on issues of literary theory, with special incidence on comparative literature and postcolonialism. Medeiros chairs the Department of Portuguese and is director of the Portuguese Studies Center. He is also editor of the electronic journal P: Portuguese Cultural Studies.
