Urban Geography
Mission
Individualization and fragmentation processes in post-industrial societies form the basis for the development of dynamic and varied personal relationships and for participation in activities as well as changes in the life course. Gradually Western countries develop from a place-based into a person-based society. The mission of the URBAN programme is to study within this context the interactions between the behaviour of individuals and their households and the social and material-spatial structures at varying temporal and spatial scales. Various theoretical and methodological resources are used in this programme. The insights gained will generate the identification of opportunities capable of influencing (spatial) policy.
