Structural Geology and Tectonics
We study structures and deformation processes in the Earth at all scales, from nanostructures to plate boundaries. We use tools ranging from electron microscopy, to field geology and remote sensing techniques. The STG group manages the electron microscopy and electron microprobe facilities of the Department of Earth Sciences.
Our main research topics:
- Structural Geology and Tectonics,
- Electron Microscopy and Nanostructures
- Metamorphism in Extreme Environments
This work is carried out in the context of the Research Institute for Earth Science Utrecht and the Netherlands Research Centre for Integrated Solid Earth Sciences (ISES).
The chairman of our group is Prof. dr. Martyn R. Drury. Members of our group teach undergraduate (Bachelors) and graduate (Masters) courses in structural geology, tectonics, deformation processes, metamorphism and fieldwork.
