Cartography
Dutch cartography has played a key part in the dissemination of geographical knowledge about the world. From the end of the sixteenth century until well into the second half of the seventeenth century, the contemporary economic and political situation allowed commercial publishers in the Netherlands to gain a monopoly on the production and distribution of geoinformation in the form of maps, atlases, and globes. Accordingly, there is great international interest in the cartographic documents from that period.
Explokart
Explokart, derived from "Exploration and accessibility of Dutch cartographic documents,16th-20th century", is the research program of the history of cartography. Explokart is dedicated to the inventorization, description, and study of Dutch wall maps, topographical maps, sea charts, hydrographical maps, and globes, and to the analysis of the geoinformation flows on which they were based.
