Study Association STORM (Environmental Sciences & Sustainable Development) is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary soon. Part of the Lustrum-program is a symposium interesting for all students of the Faculty of Geosciences!
The theme is “The End of the World”, as we are close to 2012, the year in which the world will end according to some ancient cultures... Chairman of the day will be Klaas van Egmond, Faculty Professor at Geosciences. We will discuss: are we heading to an apocalypse soon, concerning the way we treat our nature and our planet? How can we prevent that from happening? How can we fight against the powers that push us in a dangerous direction?
Inspiring people will share their vision, tell what motivates them to be active in the field of nature and sustainability and what they think we as students and young scientists can contribute. The main speakers attending:
- Johan van de Gronden (head of the Dutch section of the WWF, the WNF)
- Wubbo Ockels (professor at Delft University of Technology, former astronaut)
- Jaap Dirkmaat (activist, Association of Dutch Cultural Landscape, Stichting Das & Boom, started juridical procedures against the nature policy of Henk Bleker)
