More information about the Master's programme
For well-qualified students
The Master’s degree programme is designed for well-qualified students who are interested in a postgraduate course preparing them to become scientific researchers in human geography and spatial planning. Specific fields in the programme are urban geography and planning, economic geography, development studies, and regional geography.
NETHUR
The programme ties in with the programme of the Netherlands Graduate School of Housing and Urban Research NETHUR. Graduates of the Master’s programme do not usually have to take any additional courses before starting on a PhD, so that, in most cases, students who wish to do so can then complete a PhD thesis within a period of three years.
International environment
The Research Master’s degree course caters for about 15 students a year. On average, 50-70 percent of these are international students. As well as becoming PhD students in URU, graduates of the program have found PhD placements elsewhere and posts with research companies in the Netherlands and abroad.
Career prospects
Graduates of the Master’s programme will also be able to qualify for senior research functions within professional organisations, such as government ministries, regional and local bodies, and private research companies.
The good career prospects for graduates of the Master’s programme reflect the overall quality of the Research.
