Master programme Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences
Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences is a master's programme at the crossroads of chemical, biological, physical and computational sciences focusing on the molecular understanding of cellular function. This programme was formerly known under the name Biomolecular Sciences (click link to visit the website for that programme).
In this field, Utrecht University has gained an outstanding scientific reputation for advanced structural analysis of biomolecules in the context of cellular systems. Research groups from the faculties of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine are involved in the interdisciplinary programme. Our programme is directly linked to the PhD-programmes of the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research and the Institute of Biomembranes.
Scope of the Programme
The master's programme in Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences was initiated to transfer this unique combination of interdisciplinary research to the next generation of students. The programme is research-oriented and has a multidisciplinary character. Students are trained in state-of-the-art techniques ranging from advanced methodologies in genetics, cell biology to structural biology. Participants acquire extensive knowledge in the fields of:
- Molecular Recognition and Regulation
- Cell Signaling
- Membrane Biogenesis and Sorting
- Chemical Approaches to Biology
- Genomics/Proteomics
