Information for Students

Student grant and student travel product

You will no longer be eligible for a student grant with effect on the date on which your enrolment at the university is terminated. You have to make arrangements to terminate your student grant and/ or loan (nullening). Be sure to do this on time! Late surrender of the student travel product will cost €68 for every half month.

What do you need to do?

  • Make certain that your student grant is terminated on the same date that you terminate your enrolment at the university. For more information contact DUO.
  • Surrender your student travel product by no later than the fifth working day of the month in which you are no longer entitled to a student grant. You can surrender your subscription at any OV card machine; see the Student travel card website for more information (Dutch only).

If your student grant ends with effect on 1 January, do not collect your new student travel product but maintain a copy of the letter informing you to collect it. You do not need to surrender your old student public transport card. If you have already collected your new pass, be sure to surrender it before 1 January.

Students 30 or older

If you are 30 or older or will be during the period of interruption of your studies, you cannot re-activate your student grant once it has been terminated.
