Employee (and student) representation

Employees and students participate in the policy-making process and advise the various administrative bodies in each organisational layer of Utrecht University. A well-organised employee (and student) representation is of vital importance to the performance of the university.

The consultative bodies

University Council
The University Council is Utrecht University's central employees’ (and students') consultative body. The University Council protects the interests of students and employees.

Faculty Council
The Faculty Council is the employees’ (and students') consultative body for staff and students of the faculty. The Faculty Council is authorised to consult with the Dean about all faculty-related matters.

Employees' consultative body
The university's Service Departments have employees' consultative bodies: a type of employees council for university employees. The employees' consultative bodies consist of elected representatives of staff members.

Network Employee (and student) representation
A well-organised employee (and student) representation is of vital importance to the performance of the university. Within the Network Employee (and student) representation, employees and students actively contribute to a university-wide exchange of knowledge, experience and insights. The network regularly organises themed workshops and once a year the network organises the Day of Employee (and Student) Representation.

Consultation between employer and employee organisations

University Labour Representation Board
The University Labour Representation Board is the central council of employer and employees. The University Labour Representation Board makes binding agreements, by agreement of the parties, about the legal status and work conditions of staff.
