Visiting students
If you would like to study at Utrecht University as a visiting student, you always have to contact the faculty.
Exchange students
If you would like to attend Utrecht University as an exchange student, you can do so through a faculty or a university wide exchange agreement. Utrecht University has approximately 80 universitywide partners. Below you find information about the application for exchange students through one of these agreements. If you would like to apply for one of the faculty agreements, please contact your home university coordinator, or the coordinator from the Utrecht University faculty.
Before applying
We recommend that you have completed at least 1½ years of full-time study at your home university. Before you send in any documents, contact your home university coordinator to find out how you can be nominated for the exchange.

Students who apply through a faculty agreement must contact the faculty.
Please ask the coordinator of your home university which agreement applies in your situation.

Application form
Which application form you need and where to send it to depends on the agreement between your university and Utrecht University. Please see above!
Universitywide agreement:
If you are from one of the universitywide partners and nominated by your home university to study at Utrecht University then download this application package and read the checklist. Please note that the application form has to be signed and sent by the coordinator of your home university. Only then will it be processed by Utrecht University’s International Office.
Faculty agreement:
You can only use the above application if your university is a universitywide partner. If your university is not on this list it means your university is a faculty partner. Please contact your coordinator for the appropriate application process.

Application deadlines
Please note that the deadline depends on your nationality, and that your home university may set earlier deadlines.
Application deadline for students starting in September
April 1: For students who need an Entry Visa (MVV)
May 1: For students who do not need an Entry Visa
Application deadline for students starting in February
September 1: For students who need an Entry Visa (MVV)
October 1: For students who do not need an Entry Visa
Students with the following nationality do not need an Entry Visa (MVV):
EU/EEA countries, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Monaco, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Vatican City State.
Admission
After receiving and checking the application it is forwarded to the respective faculty or department for official acceptance. The faculties process the applications as soon as possible. However, it can sometimes take a few weeks.
If your application is successful, you receive the following from the coordinator of the UU International Office:
- Letter of Acceptance
- E-mail with:
- Confirmation form
- Utrecht Feel At Home (UFAH) services: information regarding housing, visa procedure, residence permit, orientation programme
