Research programmes
The faculty’s research effort is concentrated in five thematic, interdisciplinary programmes which enhances chances for scientific innovation at the interface between disciplines and creates a challenging and attractive scientific environment. In addition, it facilitates economic use of resources and strengthens the position for the acquisition of external research funds. The relations between the eight departments and the research programmes of the faculty of Veterinary Medicine and research focus areas of Utrecht University (UU) are depicted in the matrix below.
Additional research is conducted in the research program Advances in Veterinary Medicine (AVM). AVM includes research training for residents with the specific goal to maintain top-level veterinary specialists also in fields outside the focus of the thematic programmes, and research to enable immediate and flexible responses to acute veterinary problems. A mutual interaction between research in AVM and research in the thematic research programmes contributes to the scientific quality of veterinary research.
